Sligo University Hospital was one of the most overcrowded facilities nationwide in 2023.
Almost 8,100 people waited for a bed at the hospital over the course of the year and makes it the fourth most overcrowded, according to figures released today by the INMO.
It reflects a slight drop in the number of those who waited over the course of 2022, where over 8,136 people were left without a bed.
38 people were waiting there this morning.
In a statement, the INMO say that 2023 was the worst year for overcrowding and with six days to Christmas, there has been no let-up in pressure for nurses and midwives who are working in understaffed hospitals.
