The Irish flag has been raised at the City Hall in Sligo today in honour of the county's four Olympians.

Boxer Dean Clancy, swimmer Mona McSharry, and athletes Chris O'Donnell and Lauren Cadden are all part of the biggest team Ireland have ever sent to the Olympic games.

McSharry competes in the final of the 100m breastroke this evening, while there was disappointment for Clancy over the weekend, losing his first round bout to a Jordanian opponent.

O'Donnell and Cadden will feature later this week when the track events get underway.

In a statement, Sligo County Council say that the raising of the flag is a mark of support to the athletes, and that the county is immensely proud of their achievements.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Mayor of Sligo, Tom MacSharry, said all four athletes are an inspiration.
