Snow and ice warning in effect in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal

The status yellow alert snow and ice warning is in effect this morning in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

Although road gritting works have been in operation overnight, all motorists and pedestrians are asked to act with extreme care and assume no road is ice free, while allowing extra time for your journey.

Public transport may also be affected by this spell of wintry weather, so people are advised to check with service operators for the latest updates in their area.

There is also a call from local authorities to check in on elderly, vulnerable and isolated neighbours.

The weather warning is in place until 5pm this evening.
