A Sligo/Leitrim general election candidate is claiming old-age pensioners have been 'shafted' because of proposals to raise the pension age.
It's as reports emerge that some senior politicians can retire from politics at 50 on what has been described as 'gold-plated pensions.'
Next year, the age at which a person qualifies for a state pension will increase to 67, and possibly 68 by 2028.
But Mayor of Sligo and Solidarity People Before Profit candidate Gino O Boyle says if he's elected to the Dail, he will fight to have the pension age restored to 65.

Meanwhile, Sligo/Leitrim Labour Party candidate Nessa Cosgrove outlined Labour's position on the pension age.
