Special areas of conservation are said to be creating stumbling blocks in Collooney.

 

There are ongoing calls for flood relief measures on a section of the Unshin River yet this is being prevented because it's a special area of conservation.

It's understood a number of nearby homes have been flooded in the past.

 

The same issue is also affecting a proposal to install a much needed footpath close to the Owenmore River.

Local Cllr Thomas Healy says while it's important to protect wildlife, we need to protect people too and he believes there are ways around the current constraints:
