A special tribute programme on one of Sligo's greatest but perhaps less well-known traditional fiddle players will be streamed on Facebook at 9 o'clock tonight (Thursday).
The programme will focus on James 'Lad' O Beirne, a south Sligo native who left for the United States in 1928. He died in 1980.
He was married to a niece of another great south Sligo fiddle player, Michael Coleman.
The programme is presented by Oisín Mac Diarmada and features musicians from the U.S. and Ireland, as well as Lad O Beirne's surviving son, James.
The James ‘Lad’ O’Beirne tribute can be found at www.facebook.com/fleadhcheoil.ie
Oisín MacDiarmada has been telling Ocean FM News why Lad O Beirne and his music are so special.
