Still a demand for face to face banking

Still a demand for face to face banking

84% of people believe face-to-face banking is still important, or very important.

New research, conducted for the Financial Services Union, found the rate is above 90 per cent for over-65s.

The union says the sector is in 'turmoil' - with Ulster Bank leaving the Republic, and Bank of Ireland closing a number of branches locally in towns such as Ballymote, Tubbercurry, Bundoran, Manorhamilton and Drumshanbo. More than 100 branches of Bank of Ireland will across the Country.

FSU general secretary John O'Connell says a public forum on the future of banking is needed urgently.
