A Sligo Leitrim TD says students teachers need to be paid expenses in order to carry out their obligatory teaching placement.
A recent survey by the Union of Students in Ireland shows it costs on average €160 a week to cover the cost of classroom placement.
In addition to this a grant of €650 that was available for Gaeltacht placements for students teachers has been cut.
Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny raised the issue in the Dail with the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
