Sligo University Hospital has not hit the recommended target when it comes to staff washing their hands.
The Irish Independent report today that a number of hospitals around the country fail to meet the recommendation of 90% compliance.
Following recent inspections carried out in hospitals all over the country, Sligo University Hospital, along with Cork University Hospital, finds itself at 87.6% when it comes to staff members washing their hands.
Other hospitals included in the report were Our Lady’s Hospital Navan and Connolly Hospital Dublin on 89%, Wexford General Hospital and Mayo University Hospital at 89.5%, and Portiuncula Hospital in Galway and Tallaght University Hospital in Dublin both scored 87.1%, all of which were below the required target.
St Luke's Hospital in Dublin had the lowest percentage of hospitals inspected at 84.8%, followed by the Mater Hospital, Dublin, at 86.7%.
Among those that were above 90% were Naas General Hospital with 98.9%, Crumlin children’s hospital in Dublin scored 98.1%, with South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital in Cork, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and the National Maternity Hospital all hitting 97.6%.
The inspections were carried out in October and December of last year.
