Tanaiste Simon Harris Simon Harris will travel to Lebanon next month to meet with authorities about the continued delays to the trial of men accused of killing Irish peacekeeper Sean Rooney, the Irish Sun can reveal.
The Newtowncunningham native was killed when a convoy of Irish troops serving with a UN peacekeeping force was ambushed and fired upon on December 14th, 2022.
Seven men with connections to militant group Hezbollah have been charged with the attack but only one man, has appeared before the courts.
Earlier this week, the trial was postponed yet again – this time for eight months.
The Irish Sun are reporting that the new Defence and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Harris is planning to travel to Lebanon as a matter of urgency to press authorities on the repeated delays of the case.
