Taoiseach, minister promises every help to B Braun workers losing their jobs

Taoiseach, minister promises every help to B Braun workers losing their jobs

Taoiseach Micheal Martin says the government will do everything it can to help workers losing their jobs at the B Braun hospicare facility in Collooney in County Sligo to obtain new jobs and to also get alternative employment onto the Collooney site.

The loss of 80 jobs at the Collooney facility was raised in the Dail yesterday afternoon and again this morning.

Yesterday afternoon, Sligo/Leitrim Independent Deputy Marian Harkin told Taoiseach Micheal Martin the announcement of the jobs losses had been 'a hammer-blow for the workers, their families and the entire community in Collooney.'

Deputy Harkin asked the Taoiseach to raise the matter with Tanaiste Leo Varadkar, who has responsibility for enterprise, trade and employment .

In response, the Taoiseach said the government would do everything it could to help the workers obtain jobs and get alternative employment on the Collooney site.

The matter was again raised this morning in the Dail by both Deputy Harkin and Sligo/Leitrim Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny.

Deputy Kenny said what was now needed was a plan to be put together for the area.

Minister Mary Butler responded to both deputies Harkin and Kenny on behalf of Minister of State at the Department Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Robert Troy.
