Taxi fares are set to increase by 4.5% early next year.
Being able to pay by card is also set to become mandatory in all taxis nationwide.
The National Transport Authority made the announcement claiming the cost of operating the service has increased by about 4 per cent since 2017.
Daithi Feehily from Feehilys Taxi, Bus and Coach Hire in Sligo agrees with the increase.

He says there is a myriad of reasons why the increase is required.
