TD claims homelessness a growing problem in the north west

A local TD is claiming there's been a 66% increase during the past year in the number of homeless adults looking for emergency accommodation in the north west.

Sinn Fein's Pearse Doherty says there were 50 people in local authority managed emergency accommodation.

This, he says, compares to 30 in the previous year.

He says 32 of the 50 homeless were in Sligo and 18 in Donegal.

He also says that 56 people in the north west had to go into emergency accommodation over five days in June this year -- these included three families and 10 dependants, most likely children.

Deputy Doherty says that homelessness is becoming an increasing problem in the north west:
