Former Sligo-Leitrim Fine Gael TD and Minister, John Perry, has called for a new party convention to be held, as a result of Cllr Maguire's withdrawal from the race.
Cllr Maguires decision not to contest the next general election in the Sligo/Leitrim - South Donegal - North Roscommon constituency due to family reasons.
Mr Perry was the third placed candidate in the convention of last year, and feels strongly that the candidates going forward must have a mandate from party delegates:

And Mr Perry has confirmed to Ocean FM news that he WILL be a candidate, if Fine Gael re-stages it's convention:
