TD urges Taoiseach to make sure that there is respect for life in society

TD urges Taoiseach to make sure that there is respect for life in society

The Taoiseach has been asked to outline how Ireland intends to respond the increasing number of serious and violent attacks that are taking place throughout the country.

 

The issued was raised in the Dáil by the leader of the Aontu Party, Peadar Tobin.

Deputy Tobin referenced among others the recent murders of Michael Snee and Aidan Moffitt in Sligo as well as the serious attack on Skreen farmer Tom Niland.

 

The Meath Deputy says ‘Ireland is now a harsher and violent place’ and that a level of tolerance to such crimes with public outrage only lasting as long as there is media coverage into the respective incidents.

The former Sinn Fein TD says the government must ensure that there is respect for life in society:

In response the Taoiseach says he does not believe there is a tolerance level of such crimes and that measures are being taken such as providing Gardaí with more power to deal with those that engage in criminal behaviour:
