Transport Minister Eamon Ryan has been handed a bleak warning that failure to invest in the N17 road project will lead to more fatalities and serious injuries.

The route from Collooney to Knock features in a twelve page document compiled by the TII which was drafted in the context of Budget allocations for roads this year

The brief predicts that there will be three further deaths and six serious injuries on the N17 over the next five years if improvement works are not carried out.

Nationally, Transport Infrastructure Ireland has warned that a lack of action on roads highlighted could result in 77 deaths and 381 serious injuries over the same period.

Minister Ryan has come under fire from Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil backbenchers in recent months over the stalling of significant road projects such as the N17.
