Tommie Gorman's "lifeblood was connection", funeral hears

Hundreds gathered at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Ransboro on Saturday afternoon for the funeral mass of former RTÉ journalist Tommie Gorman.

 

Mr Gorman, of Lisheen, Strandhill and formerly of Cairns Road passed away at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin on Tuesday at the age of 68.

Among the mourners were Taoiseach Simon Harris, Northern Ireland First Minister Sinn Féin's Michelle O'Neill, former Sinn Féin president, Gerry Adams, former First Minister Arlene Foster and Peter Robinson of the DUP.

 

Former RTÉ colleagues of Mr Gorman's Bryan Dobson and Ann Casin were also in attendance as well as the station's current Director General, Kevin Bakhurst.

The late Mr. Gorman made his final visit to the Showgrounds earlier in the afternoon before Sligo Rovers officials and players formed a guard of honour on the approach to the church.

 

Speaking in the eulogy, Mr Gorman’s son Joe spoke of his father’s love of forming connections with people and places:
