Tourism & Hospitality sectors in Donegal facing massive challenges

The tourism and hospitality industry in Donegal is facing a threat unlike in any other county because of Donegal's dependence on business from Northern Ireland.

That's according to Paul Diver, of the Sandhouse Hotel in Rossnowlagh and chairman of the Donegal branch of the Irish Hotels Federation, who says about 5,500 jobs in the tourism industry in the county are under threat.

He was speaking after the Donegal IHF branch sent a letter to Donegal TDs on behalf of local hoteliers, representing about 60 businesses.

The letter calls for an increase in the Wage Subsidy Scheme, a reduction in VAT, help for hotels struggling because of lost cash flow and an extension of the local authority rates waiver.

He told Ocean FM News whey it was felt necessary to send the letter to the TD's.
