Sligo/Leitrim Fine Gael TD Tony McLougjhlin says the Transport Minister Shane Ross has given him an assurance that there is no threat to the future of the Sligo/Dublin rail line.
Deputy McLoughlin made his comments following a meeting with Minister Ross yesterday after media reports that the closure of the Sligo/Dublin line is on the table again.
Speculation about the future of the line has arisen as a result of a report by the National Transport Authority and Irish Rail suggesting the closure of all inter-city services except for Dublin to Cork, Limerick and Galway.
But after meeting the minister, Deputy McLoughlin is adamant there is no threat to the Sligo/Dublin line.
And he says suggestions otherwise are 'scaremongering.'
