One of the best-known local authority officials in Sligo is bowing out.
Director of Services Bartley Gavin attended his last monthly meeting of the county council yesterday, (Monday).
He will be retiring in November after taking leave due to him.
Councillors paid tribute to him at yesterday's council meeting, which heard his career took him from his role as an engineer to working on the Cranmore Regeneration Project, dealing with the all-important section of housing and accommodation, chairing the committee that organised two All-Ireland fleadhanna cheoil in Sligo and, finally, helping the council with its response to the Covid emergency.
Council Cathaoirleach Dara Mulvey said Mr Gavin was an excellent public official who understood people and their problems.
