Motorists are asked to drive with caution on the N4 Sligo/Dublin road at Cloonlurg, near the turn-off for Ballymote, where an articulated truck has gone off the road.
The roads remains open but drivers are asked to approach this junction with caution.
A spokesperson for Sligo County Council says some motorists are slowing down or stopping at the scene, causing a major traffic hazard.
"This should not be occurring in any circumstances. The cooperation of all road users is appreciated," the spokesperson added.
