New speed safety measures for Ballygawley to Ballintogher road

Two new speed safety measures have been introduced on the regional R290 road between Ballygawley and Ballintogher in County Sligo.

Solar powered speed signs have been erected at Ballintogher, which will alert motorists to the speed they are travelling at through the village.

And at Ballygawley, the speed limit has now been extended out past Castle Dargan, where the well-known hotel and golf course of the same name is located.

Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy and Oliver McLoughlin, chairman of the R290 Action Group have welcomed the new measures.

Cllr Healy says there has been concern about speeding vehicles passing through areas such as Ballintogher, Ballisodare, Ballygawley and Collooney, with Ballintogher now the first to have solar speed limit signs.

He also says there's a need for warning signs for pedestrians as many local people walk to the hotel.

Oliver McLoughlin says safety on the road has been concern for all users:
