It is taking over two and half years for Sligo County Council to fill vacant social housing, the longest wait time in the country.
The Department of Housing's report on Vacant/Void Social Housing into Local Authorities found as of the 31st of December 2019, it's taking an average of 138.89 weeks for the local authority to turn around vacant premises.
In a statement to OceanFM News, Sligo County Council say the classification is mainly due to half the properties on the list, 32 buildings, pending regeneration or demolition.
Four houses are pending sale while nine are to be used as temporary accommodation under the Cranmore Regeneration Programme.
The Department report does highlight the fact that if these buildings were excluded, the average vacant time would be 10.79 weeks, which is just longer than Meath County Council at 10 weeks, the shortest average period of vacancy nationally.
