The Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland received over 400 claims relating to accidents caused by uninsured and untraced driving in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal over the last 5 years.
In figures released, a total of 90 claims were made in Sligo during that period with a 27% increase in 2022 on the previous year's total.
11 claims were made in Leitrim in 2020 and 2022, the only times in the five-year period when the number reached double figures, totalling 48.
Donegal, meanwhile, saw the North West's highest figure with 287 claims made across the five-year period.
On a county-by-county basis, the highest total number of claims received were made in Dublin (4,605), 819 in Cork and 617 was the number of claims made in Limerick.
