The CEO of the Sligo Chamber of commerce says now is the time for efforts to be renewed to ensure that uses are found vacant commercial units in the north west and throughout the country.
Aidan Doyle comments come after it was announced last week that 34 Argos stores in Ireland, including the one in Sligo is to close
Almost 600 staff in Argos stores across the Republic of Ireland will be impacted by the closures.
Speaking to Ocean FM Aidan Doyle says incentives need to be provided to encourage businesses to trade in towns and cities across the country.
He also says consideration should be given to turn some of the vacant commercial buildings into residential units:
