Warning issued after dogs become 'seriously ill' after swimming in local lake

A warning has been issued after a number of dogs have become seriously ill after swimming in Lough Melvin in Fermanagh.

Local vets say that they have a number of pets brought in to be treated over the last 48 hours.

The cause of this may be toxic blue green algae, combined with high body temperatures due to the weather, and then entering the water leading to shock.

Police are warning pet owners to not bring your dog swimming in stagnant lake waters.
