With the current icy weather warnings in place throughout the North West, the Coast Guard, RNLI and Water Safety Ireland have issued a joint water safety appeal urging people to be aware of the added danger at aquatic environments and of additional safety considerations when on or near the water.
The warning comes as searches are continuing at a lake in the English West Midlands where four boys were pulled from icy waters at the weekend.
Three of the children, who were 8, 10 and 11 years old died after following through the ice at Babbs Mill Park in Solihull.
A fourth boy, who’s 6 years old, remains in a critical condition.
