Windy start to New Year in north west

Motorists throughout the north west are urged to drive with caution this morning because of strong winds.

A Status Yellow Wind warning is in place for Donegal until 9am.

Southwesterly winds will reach speeds of 50 to 65km/h with gusts of up to 100km/h, higher in coastal areas and on high ground.

Those near coastal areas are being warned that localised wave overtopping is possible.
