A woman is in a serious condition in hospital following an overnight collision in Sligo Town.
The crash, involving a pedestrian and a vehicle, happened in the Cranmore area shortly before 8pm last night.
Emergency services attended the scene and the pedestrian was taken to Sligo University Hospital for further treatment. Her injuries have been described as serious.
The Cranmore Road remains closed and Gardai are due to carry out a technical examination of the scene this morning.
All road users are being urged to avoid the area and to see alternative routes.
Diversions are in place via Martin Savage Terrace / Riverside / Lower Abbey Street / Gaol Road.
HGV’s are advised to avoid the area until the Cranmore Road reopens.
The S1 Bus Route (southbound) will avoid the eastern area of Sligo town for the duration of the Cranmore Road closure. Bus users bound for Abbey Street / Cranmore Road / Doorly Park can disembark on Pearse Road at the Garda Station or on Cleveragh Road, where buses will rejoin the usual route.
An investigation has been launched and Gardai are urging any witnesses to come forward.
Any road users who were in the Cranmore Road area between 7.30pm and 8pm last evening and who may have dash cam footage are being asked to make this available to investigating Gardai.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact Sligo Garda Station.
