Work has started on four new sewerage schemes in County Donegal.
They are at Killybegs, Bundoran, Glencolmcille and Convoy.
The work will cost a total of almost eighteen and a half million euro.
This work on developing new sewerage facilities in County Donegal is part of a €70 million investment by Irish Water,
Veolia Water Ireland in partnership with BAM Civil Limited are carrying out the works.
They include initial upgrading of the access roads to both the Bundoran and Killybegs plants.
Work will start soon at the main Bundoran pumping station -- that is expected to last for six months.
During these works, a section of the public car park and the green area along the foreshore beside the Bradogue River will be cordoned off.
Eunan Canavan, of Irish Water, says Killybegs and Bundoran are two of 44 towns in the country where untreated sewerage is being discharged directly into the sea.
Last December, residents and businesses in Bundoran endured a lengthy period without a water supply after the treatment plant flooded.
The situation arose after the nearby Lough Melvin on the Leitrim Donegal border rose to its highest levels ever.
The ESB was forced to cut off the supply as a safety measure.
Now, Mr Canavan says Irish Water will ensure that wastewater treatment in the four towns complies with EU standards -- while allowing for future economic growth.
