Irish Water is to restart work in two weeks time in O'Connell Street in Sligo town.

Work there on upgrading the town's main sewer began last year but was suspended in November.

Details of the final section of the €1.3m project now to be done were outlined to business groups at a meeting in City Hall this week.

The work is being done in partnership with Sligo County Council and Carty Contractors.

The project involves a complete overhaul of the sewer along the length of O Connell Street, which dates from the late 1800s or early 1900s.

Work will restart again on September 4th and is due to be finished in November.

Diversions will be in place during some stages of the work.

However, Irish Water is stressing that O'Connell Street will remain open for business.

It says the work will be limited to short sections to reduce the impact on businesses and road users.
