Young Sligo man killed in Canada crash to be laid to rest today

A young Sligo man who tragically lost his life in Canada earlier this month will be laid to rest today.

 

Anthony McGwynne, originally from Calry, died when the motorbike he was travelling on was struck by a car in Vancouver on the night of Thursday, July 4th.

The collision happened just before 9.30pm and despite life-saving efforts by bystanders and paramedics, the 27 year old was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The driver of the car was taken to hospital for treatment while the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland provided consular assistance to Mr McGwynne's family.

His Funeral takes place today at 12 noon in Saint Joseph's Church, Ballytivnan, Sligo.

 

Burial will follow in Clogher New Cemetery, Calry, Co. Sligo.
