So sorry to hear of Barney's death rip .like many I enjoyed the ceili music that emanated from Fitzgerald's on way to and from school in late 50s and early 60s . Those were the days long gone but not forgotten. May Barney's gentle soul rest in eternal peace along side his brother Richie who preceded him some years ago .

I was really sad to read about the death of Barney and felt I had to pay my own personal tribute to the Barney I knew and condolences to his family, and the entire Fitzgerald Family. Like so many others I grew up listening and dancing to the Band and later while working in London would meet up during their tours of UK. Later on retirement again I would meet the brothers in the Great Northern Hotel Bundoran on a Monday Night which was their regular venue. On the death of Richard it was a heartbreaking time for Barney and the end of a wonderful career for the band. (Sadly their drummer Noel Meehan is also gone) As a sort of "half baked" accordion player myself I have tried to recreate so many of their favourite recordings but the harmony between the pair was outstanding and Barney was the life and soul of the party including song duets with sister Kathleen, Barney a light has gone out for followers like me, but Heaven will be a richer place where I hope God will smile on the two brothers now they are reunited in Christ I have personally witnessed both brothers recite the Angelus in my company on many occasions, a daily practice we seem to have sadly lost the practice of, may God shine a light on your face and may you rest in peace, from a family that in their deep and spiritual humanity brought Bundoran to the people and who better than ourselves to be proud of the anthem Beautiful Bundoran. Kindest regards to all, Tommy Flanagan

I have lost my two best friends Barney and Richie both RIP always in my thoughts and prayers The likes of the Richard Fitzgerald Ceili Band we will never see again. They played the Town Hall in Enniskillen to 1500 people every third Tuesday night they were both world class accordion players. God bless them both now in Heaven.
