A Donegal Councillor says a lot of thought needs to be given before a moratorium on commercial rates can be applied to businesses affected by a drop off in tourist numbers.
Many business are reporting reduced revenue due to tourist accommodation being used to house refugees.
Calls from throughout the Country are being made on the Minister for Enterprise, Simon Coveney, to introduce waivers to tourism and hospitality businesses impacted by the refugee crisis.
The waivers could include a reduction in the rates the business pay to their local Authorities.
Ballyshannon based Councillor Barry Sweeney says that while he welcomes support for businesses he warns that a reduction in local authority revenue will also impact the level of investment that County Councils can put into tourism infrastructure.
