Management at Leitrim school urged to apply for solar panel grants while heat is leaking out of broken windows

A Local TD has sharply criticised the Department of Education for encouraging a school in Leitrim to apply for grants to install solar panels in their facility while heat is leaking out of old and broken teak windows.

It's been claimed that Emergency works have been refused at St Aidan's National School in Rossinver.

The Department of Education has refused a proposal for works despite a number of pressing issues at the facility that is home to 37 pupils.

School management have been advised to apply for funding the Summer Works scheme, an initiative that has not been in operation since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sligo Leitrim Deputy Martin Kenny recently raised the matter with the Tánaiste in the Dáil where he called on the Department of Education to engage immediately with school management on the issues.

Michael Martin has given a commitment to raise the issued with the Minister for Education.
