Fianna Fail members in Donegal and Sligo have confirmed that they will request the Party to add Senator Niall Blaney to the ticket in the European Parliament elections.
Senator Blaney missed out on selection over the weekend when the Laois-Offlay TD Barry Cowen was selected to contest the election in the Midlands North West constituency.
It’s thought that Fianna Fail could add a second candidate in the region which now takes in Laois and Offaly.
It’s understood that Senator Blaney has already received the backing of members in his native county of Donegal.
Gerry O’Connor is the Fianna Fail constituency secretary in Sligo.
He has also confirmed that party members in Sligo will also be supporting the move.
