The amounts of rents being charged to new tenancies is a worry for Ballyshannon Councillor.

A Donegal Councillor says recent research from the ESRI which looks at the average rent prices of new tenancies compared to existing ones offers cause for concern in Donegal.

 

The North West county has witnessed along with Wexford the biggest increases in the country when it comes to the amounts being charged to new tenancies.

The rate has increased in the region of 23 percent

 

 

The Fine Gael Councillor says there are a number factors which has led to the increased rents including supply and demand.

He says the fact that there are long waiting list for social housing in the county is also leading to increased rents
