Calls in Leitrim to count diaspora votes in Presidential Elections

Today's meeting of Leitrim County Council will hear calls on members of the Local Authority to back calls which would change the legislation lead to a referendum that would allow the Irish diaspora to vote in this year's Presidential Election.

Kinlough based Councillor Justin Warnock is tabling a motion on the issue.

The Fianna Fáil Coucillor says a referendum was promised by previous government administrations, to allow our diaspora to vote in the Presidential Elections.

Cllr Warnock says that with modern technology currently available this will afford an opportunity to those abroad to play a part in the selection of our next President.
