The Minister for Agriculture says emergency measures are in place for farmers that need to dispose of dead livestock
Minister McConalogue says his department is continuing to intervene in a dispute between rendering plants and dead animal collectors.
Recently the Seanad was told that “all knackeries in Ireland are effectively closed” as a result of the issue.
It is claimed that the dispute is due to the knackeries' inability to pay the cost of rendering, which increased a number of months ago.
Minister McConalogue has confirmed to Ocean FM news that farmer after securing permission from the veterinary office will be allowed to bury animals on their land while the option of bring dead animals to rendering plants in Northern Ireland is also an option
