A former local election candidate in Leitrim has questioned the rationale and logic behind moves to reduce the payment for homeowners who provide accommodation to people fleeing the Ukraine.
It's thought that there are just over 15,000 hosts providing housing to around 36,000 Ukrainians.
Those supplying accommodation are receiving monthly payments of €800.
€239 million has been paid over since the scheme's introduction.
Recently there has been speculation that changes will be made to the Accommodation Recognition Payment scheme.
Bernie Linnane contested the 2024 Local elections on behalf of the Labour Party.
She says any moves to reduce the payments will negatively impact both the refugees during an accommodation crisis and the home owners providing accommodation during a cost of living crisis.
