Leitrim Councillor pleads with Local TD’s to oppose government plants to construct new Gas Terminal

A Leitrim Councillor is urging the three government TD’S in the Sligo Leitrim constituency to voice their opposition to moves which would see the state provide 300 million euro in funding towards the construction of terminal that what will store fracked Gas.

 

Cabinet is expected to approve the establishment of a strategic gas reserve this morning.

Manorhamilton MD Councillor Eddie Mitchell was part of a campaign that successfully managed to lobby for legislation to be introduced that prevents fracking in the Republic of Ireland.

He is warning that Government is at risk damaging the wind energy sector.

 

Minister Darragh O'Brien will tell his colleagues a temporary gas reserve is needed to ensure Ireland's energy security.

Details of how and where the gas reserve will be stored have not yet been disclosed.

 

Cllr Mitchell has urged all local TD’s to strongly oppose the move.
