Local creches hit out at Core Funding system

Creches and childcare providers in Sligo have that the Core Funding scheme provided by Government are not fit for purpose.

Earlier today, it was reported that almost 270 childcare providers across the North West had opted in to the third round of Core Funding.

That represents 89% of service providers in Sligo, 92% in Donegal, and 100% in Leitrim.

However, it's felt locally that the terms and conditions of opting in to the Core Funding make it difficult to keep businesses afloat.

Sandra Loftus, of Happy Days Creche in Ballytivnan, is one of a number of childcare providers who have opted out of the funding, and has had to put fees up as a result.

She says that a number of changes to the Core Funding system are badly needed, but that she is satisfied with her decision to opt out.
