The Western Rail corridor has been at the centre of discussions in the Dáil this morning.
Sligo Leitrim TDs Marian Harkin and Martin Kenny have been enquiring about the reopening of the line from Collooney to Claremorris.
There has been some debate on the issue as it is felt that the proposed greenway will be competing with the rail line.
Deputy Harkin asked Minister Ryan what the Government's priorities were regarding the rail corridor, and in response, he confirmed that there will be no plans to extend the rail line north of Claremorris to Sligo.
In support of Deputy Harkin's query, Deputy Kenny said that the only way for the region to grow economically is to put the infrastructure in place.
