It thought that the new Medical Offsite Ward in Sligo won't go far enough to address major overcrowding issues on site.
The ward, located at St. Johns Community Hospital, comprises of 26 beds and aims to ease patient flow from the Emergency Department and throughout the main hospital.
There were over 40 people awaiting admission to Sligo University Hospital most days this week, with 55 waiting on Monday alone.
Fianna Fail Cllr Edel MacSharry, who's also a member of the Regional Health Forum West says it'll be a help but with the hospital operating at 100% capacity most of the time, a lot more needs to be done:
