Surprise expressed in Leitrim with findings contained in wind energy survey

A representative for the 'Save Dough Mountain’ group has expressed his surprise with a recent survey which claims that four in five people support wind energy and more than half are happy to have a wind farm in their local area.

The findings will come as a surprise to many residents in North that have strongly opposed the developments of windfarms on the likes of Corry, Shass and Dough Mountains in the greater Dromahiar and Manorhamilton areas.

The national survey by 'Interactions Research' for Wind Energy Ireland, found 80 %of the public support wind energy development, with 62 % backing local wind farms.

Joseph Sheerin from the Save Dough Mountain group in Manorhamilton says he doubt if the survey was conducted locally it would have received high levels of support.
