Taskforce meeting to discuss fracked gas imports

Taskforce meeting to discuss fracked gas imports

It's claimed that high level meeting will take place today to plan for a scenario if Ireland's energy supply was attacked is a glorified PR stunt aimed to persuade the public that Ireland needs to import fracked gas.

The Tanaiste will chair a meeting of the Government's Taskforce on Emergency Planning which focuses on dealing with disasters.

It's understood the Taskforce will consider a scenario in which Ireland's gas pipelines were damaged and how it would impact a number of large Gas users in the state that would be at risk from an attack on our gas supply.

Manorhamilton MD Councillor Eddie Mitchell says today's event part of coordinated effort to create political cover ahead of Michael Martin's visit to the oval office tomorrow.

Eddie Mitchell expected the Taoiseach to tell the US President at that meeting that Ireland will import fracked gas from the US.
