EJ Sligo All-Stars suffered a 98-91 loss to Domino's men's Super League leaders UCC Blue Demons in the first of this weekend's home double-bill at the Mercy College gym, played on Saturday night.
Two nerveless free throws from American Rob Montgomery in the dying seconds of the fourth quarter brought the All-Stars level at the end of normal time - to take the contest into the five-minute overtime.
But in the extra periods, Demons greater strength in depth told as they moved seven points clear to eventually take the win.
The All-Stars remain in the play-off places despite this loss (eighth), going into Sunday's home game against Templeogue.
