ATU Donegal were beaten by last year's Sigerson Cup finals, University of Limerick (UL), in Wednesday night's round 1 match in Bekan, on a final scoreline of 3-12 to 0-8.
Despite losing, Maxi Curran's side are not out of the competition yet.
They now go into the losers Round 2B where they will play MTU Cork.
ATU Sligo begin their Sigerson Cup challenge on Thursday evening when they go to the Dub in Belfast to play St Mary's (The Ranch) at 8pm.
