Less than 12 months after being relegated from Sligo Leitrim's Super League, Aughanagh Celtic ensured a swift return to junior soccer's top tier on Friday night when they clinched the Sligo Pallets Premier League title with a 3-1 win away to Ballisodare United.
A draw would have been enough for the Ballinafad club to win the title but Aughanagh, who had led the Premier League from the start of the season, were determined to clinch promotion with a victory.
It's the club's first-ever Premier League title.
Goals from James Kiernan, Darragh Hailstones (pen) and Seamus Kane sealed the win and promotion.
They have one remaining league game to play, which will see Aughanagh presented with the Premier League silverware.
Aughanagh's promotion drew praise from far and wide with former Republic of Ireland and Liverpool striker John Aldridge sending on his congratulations to the team!
