Clare women's gaelic footballers won't contest this season's Connacht LGFA intermediate football championship final, should they reach the provincial decider after the round-robin stages.
As Munster's only intermediate county, the Banner girls were granted admission to the Connacht championship this year to get meaningful competitive football - and to raise the number of competing counties in Connacht's competition to an even four.
Connacht has just three intermediate teams - Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo (Mayo and Galway play senior).
The Connacht LGFA Championship is being played on a round-robin basis this year - and Clare opened their campaign with a comprehensive 1-17 to 1-4 win over holders Leitrim in Dromod on Sunday.
The two two counties from the group stage will contest the Connacht final but it's been confirmed that if Clare finish in the top two, then the third-placed team would take their place in the provincial decider.
Sunday's Connacht LGFA Championship results
Roscommon 4-17 Sligo 3-3
Leitrim 1-4 Clare 1-17.
